Picture the person you love the most, the person who lives in the deepest corner of your heart.
Would you give up everything you own for their comfort? Would you consider going to jail to keep them free? Would you die to keep them alive? The answer for many will probably be a profound YES.

Now think of the person who constantly causes you pain. Would you have the same willingness to sacrifice all you have or your life. My guess is that for most of you the answer is a resounding NO.

This contrast highlights the astonishing nature of the love of Christ. The reckless, unthinkable love of God displayed through the death of Jesus Christ. A love not reserved for the deserving, but a love poured out for all, even those who were far from him, even those who would ultimately reject him. The bible says “While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8. This encapsulates the radical nature of Jesus’ sacrifice and the reason why Easter is one of the most important events for the Christian. Think about the implications. This wasn’t a calculated transaction, a reward for good behavior. It was a preemptive strike of grace, a demonstration of love so profound it bypassed our failings and reached us in our deepest need. It suggests that God’s love isn’t based on our performance or worthiness, but stems from his very nature – a boundless, unwavering commitment to humanity and reconciliation, even in its broken state. The death of Christ wasn’t a comfortable or convenient act. It involved immense suffering, both physical and emotional.
He endured betrayal, abandonment, and the weight of the world’s imperfections. Yet, he willingly walked this path, driven by a love that saw beyond our flaws to our potential for redemption and relationship with God. So, how do we respond to such a great display of love?

  1. Acceptance: God went a long distance to prove His pure and undeniable love for humanity. Hence, why not give it a try? Consider accepting this unparalleled love, one that surpasses all others. It will change your life.
  2. Embrace Forgiveness: Having experienced such profound forgiveness, Christians are called to extend that same grace to others who have wronged them. This can be challenging, however, it is essential. Let us pass on undeserved forgiveness in a world so full of hate and division.
  3. Love God What does a God who has loved us so deeply want in return? Our love. Let’s spend time learning and growing our faith in a trustworthy savior – Jesus Christ!
